Investigators in India have recovered the second black box from the Air India Boeing 787 that crashed in Ahmedabad last Thursday, killing at least 279 people, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

The cockpit voice recorder (CVR), which captures conversations and sounds from the flight deck, was retrieved by search teams, according to PK Mishra, a senior aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The flight data recorder (FDR), which contains detailed technical data on the aircraft's performance, had been recovered a day after the crash.

Devastating Impact

The London-bound flight went down shortly after takeoff, slamming into a residential area in Ahmedabad. Of the 242 passengers and crew on board, only one passenger survived. The crash also claimed the lives of at least 38 people on the ground due to the impact.

"The AAIB has launched a detailed investigation, and the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting a parallel probe under international protocols since the aircraft is American-made," Mishra said. "Officials confirmed that the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder have been located and secured."

The recovery of both black boxes is crucial for investigators to determine the cause of one of India's deadliest aviation disasters in recent years. Experts will analyze the data to understand what went wrong during the critical moments after takeoff.

Indian authorities have not yet released information about potential causes of the crash. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has generally maintained a good safety record since entering service, making this incident particularly significant for aviation safety experts.

Prime Minister Modi had earlier visited the crash site and announced compensation for the victims' families. The government has also promised a thorough and transparent investigation into the tragedy.
