A pro-PDP group operating under the name Bala Agents' Mandate has extended an invitation to former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging them to return to their political roots in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group emphasized that both political figures should collaborate with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to rebuild what they described as "a strong and united opposition party" capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, the State Coordinator of the group, Amadi Chijioke, advised both men against forming a new opposition coalition, warning that such a move would only weaken efforts to "rescue Nigeria from alleged misrule and democratic backsliding."

"I strongly believe in the leadership of Bala Mohammed to lead the PDP to glory. I don't think there is any need to bring Atiku Abubakar and others together to form a new coalition. I believe they should come back home — PDP is home," Chijioke stated.

"The likes of Peter Obi, the likes of Chibuike Amaechi — I am expecting these men to return and join Bala Mohammed in rebuilding the PDP, because right now, he is appearing alone in the system," he added.

PDP Governors' Forum: A Pillar of Strength

The National Coordinator of the group, Habib Musa, praised the PDP Governors' Forum led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, describing it as "the most formidable and credible structure currently holding the party together."

According to Musa, the Forum has remained a symbol of unity and accountability amid rising political uncertainties. He criticized the recent defections of the governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom States to the APC, suggesting these moves were motivated by "fear and opportunism" rather than ideological considerations.

"We assure the good people of those states that the PDP remains a formidable force, and we will soon reclaim the governments of those states through the ballot box," Musa declared.

In a direct appeal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the group urged him to set aside differences and work with Mohammed for the unity of the PDP, despite Wike's current role in the APC-led federal government.

The call comes amid growing concerns about the fragmentation of opposition forces in Nigeria's political landscape, with many analysts suggesting that a united opposition would be necessary to mount an effective challenge in the 2027 presidential election.

Both Amaechi and Obi were formerly prominent PDP members before their respective departures from the party. Amaechi defected to the APC in 2013, while Obi left the PDP in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambition under the Labour Party platform.

Neither Amaechi nor Obi has responded to the call for their return to the PDP at the time of this report.
