The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent wave of killings in Benue State, describing the ongoing violence as "a national tragedy and a moral stain on the conscience of the country."
In a statement released on Monday, MPAC expressed grief and outrage over what it termed the "mindless slaughter of innocent men, women, and children," which has transformed Benue into what they described as a killing field.
Disu Kamor, Executive Chairman of MPAC, called on the Federal Government, Benue State authorities, and all security agencies to move beyond routine condemnation and take urgent, coordinated action to end the bloodshed.
"This is not just a tragedy for Benue, it is a national shame that should shake every person of conscience to the core. The sanctity of human life is sacred. No family or community should live under the shadow of violence and impunity," Kamor stated.
Call for Decisive Action
The organization emphasized that these attacks represent more than assaults on individuals—they strike at Nigeria's shared humanity, unity, and collective future. MPAC warned that continued inaction in the face of such carnage only emboldens perpetrators and deepens the erosion of national values.
"Enough of the rhetoric. The time for action is now," the group declared, demanding bold, intelligence-led security measures and urging leaders at all levels to prioritize the protection of lives.
MPAC also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and citizens to take a stand against the violence, stressing that silence and indifference enable the cycle of bloodshed to continue.
"The time for lamentation has passed. What this moment demands is a decisive, sincere, and sustained effort to end the carnage and secure justice for the victims," Kamor emphasized.
Solidarity with Victims
The organization expressed solidarity with the people of Benue State and extended condolences to bereaved families while praying for the recovery of those injured. MPAC also called on God to guide Nigeria's leaders toward justice, compassion, and righteousness.
"Enough is enough. Nigeria must not stand idly by while the blood of the innocent flows. We demand action—immediate, effective, and enduring—to end this nightmare and restore the dignity of our nation," the statement concluded.
The recent violence in Benue has drawn national attention, with President Tinubu reportedly planning to visit the affected areas on Wednesday. The Inspector General of Police has also promised to end the violence in the state.
