The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has sentenced two internet fraudsters, Glory Okwor Ebube and Harrison Uzorchukwu Emmanuel, to 30 months imprisonment each for separate fraud-related offenses.

Justice P. I. Ajoku delivered the judgment on Monday after both defendants pleaded guilty to charges brought against them by the Port Harcourt zonal directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Details of the Fraud Cases

According to court documents, Ebube was convicted for impersonating American celebrity Kim Kardashian on Telegram to defraud unsuspecting victims of $2,000. The offense, committed in February 2024, contravenes Section 1(2)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.

Emmanuel, on the other hand, was found guilty of defrauding a victim identified as Deborah Teaque of $1,000 in March 2025 through a fictitious bitcoin investment scheme.

Prosecution counsels N. A. Dodo and M. Abubakar presented evidence against both defendants, while defense lawyers G. M. Chukwu and Dozie Munakwe appealed for leniency, citing their clients' status as first-time offenders.

Court Judgment and Penalties

Justice Ajoku sentenced each convict to 30 months at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre with an alternative option to pay a fine of N200,000 into the federal government's Consolidated Revenue Account.

Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of items recovered during their arrest, including:

  • A Toyota Corolla Camry
  • An iPhone 15 Pro
  • An iPhone 16

Both convicts were also required to submit affidavits of good behavior as part of the judgment conditions.

The EFCC had arrested the duo following credible intelligence in April 2025 that uncovered their involvement in online fraudulent activities.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to combat the rising tide of internet fraud and cybercrime in the country.
