The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended three individuals suspected of internet fraud in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The arrests were made during an early morning sting operation conducted by operatives from the Commission's Uyo Zonal Directorate on Wednesday.

According to EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the suspects are currently being held at a Commission facility in Uyo. The operation targeted multiple locations including Mbierebe, Stadium Road, Akpasak Estate, and Oron Road, all within the Uyo metropolis.

During the operation, several items were recovered from the suspects. These include four mobile phones, a desktop computer, a laptop, and two vehicles. The Commission has stated that these items will serve as evidence in the ongoing investigation.

"They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded," Oyewale confirmed in the statement released by the anti-graft agency.

This operation is part of the EFCC's continued efforts to combat cybercrime and financial fraud across Nigeria. Internet fraud, commonly known as 'yahoo yahoo,' has remained a significant concern for law enforcement agencies in the country.

The Commission has intensified its operations against suspected fraudsters in recent months, with similar arrests reported in other parts of the country including Kaduna and Gombe states.

The EFCC has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that may be linked to internet fraud and other financial crimes.
