The All Progressive Concern Actors (APCA), a group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has publicly criticized Senator David Jimkuta for attending a party consultative meeting scheduled during Sunday worship hours, describing the action as insensitive to Christian faithful.

Senator Jimkuta, who represents Taraba South and holds the position of highest-ranking APC elected official from Taraba State, led a delegation to a North-East APC stakeholders meeting in Gombe on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The meeting was scheduled for 11:00 am, a time traditionally reserved for Christian worship services.

Group Demands Apology

During a press briefing held in Jalingo on Monday, APCA coordinator Damshark Mark Adamu and secretary Ismaila Dauda expressed strong disapproval of both the meeting's timing and the senator's participation.

"Senator Jimkuta should be held responsible. As a Christian and a prominent leader in the party, he should have intervened and advised against holding the meeting during church hours," Adamu stated during the briefing.

"He has the influence to lead, and with that comes the responsibility to ensure the party respects the religious diversity of its members," he added.

Prior Warnings Ignored

The group highlighted that concerns about the meeting's timing had been raised earlier. They referenced a press briefing held on Friday where APC chieftain Daniel Musa had criticized North-East Zonal Coordinator and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for scheduling the meeting at a time when many Christians would be attending church services.

Despite these public objections, the meeting proceeded as originally planned, which the group views as deliberate disregard for Christian sensibilities.

Allegations of Betrayal

The APCA further alleged that Senator Jimkuta's actions contradicted his campaign promises and public religious identity.

"During his 2023 campaign, Senator Jimkuta openly identified as a Christian and sought support from the Christian community. This action now feels like a betrayal. He must apologize to the Christians in the zone for participating in an event that disrespected their faith," Adamu declared.

The controversy highlights ongoing tensions regarding religious sensitivity in Nigerian politics, particularly in regions with diverse faith communities.

As of press time, Senator Jimkuta had not responded to the allegations or issued any statement regarding the controversy.
