A security guard identified as Lanre Ismael has been killed in a hit-and-run incident along Unity Road in Ilorin, Kwara State. The tragic accident occurred around midnight on Saturday as Ismael was heading to his night duty post.

According to sources familiar with the incident, Ismael was first struck by a vehicle and subsequently run over by other vehicles on the highway. The deceased was reportedly on his way to resume night duty at an establishment along Yidi Road when the accident happened.

Recent Release from NSCDC Custody

BenriNews gathered that Ismael had been released earlier that same Saturday morning by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command. His detention was reportedly connected to allegations that shops under his security supervision had been burglarized recently.

The remains of the deceased have since been buried in Ilorin in accordance with Islamic rites. Attempts to reach the NSCDC spokesman in Kwara State, Ayoola Micheal Shola, for comments on Sunday were unsuccessful.

This incident adds to growing concerns about road safety in the Ilorin metropolis, particularly for pedestrians navigating busy highways during late hours.

The police have yet to issue an official statement regarding efforts to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.
