Cattle rustlers attacked Tuwon Tsoro village in Bagaye Mera ward, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Friday evening, making away with numerous cows and sheep belonging to local residents.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers invaded the community around dusk, creating panic among villagers as they forcefully seized livestock from several families. While no casualties were reported, the economic impact on the affected households has been described as devastating.

Victims Recount Their Losses

Malam Umaru Bagaye, one of the victims, told BenriNews that the rustlers took five of his cows and several sheep, which constituted his primary source of livelihood.

"This is what I use to feed my family and send my children to school. Losing them like this is like starting life all over again," Bagaye said, visibly distressed by the incident.

For many residents of Tuwon Tsoro, animal husbandry represents not just a tradition but their economic backbone, making this attack particularly crippling for the community.

Government Response

Following the incident, Honourable Muhammed Sani Garba Tiggi, the member representing Augie Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, visited the affected community on Saturday to offer sympathy and support.

During his address to the villagers, Tiggi expressed gratitude that no lives were lost but acknowledged the serious economic setback the rustling had caused. He urged security agencies to take swift action to apprehend those responsible for the theft.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Nigeria's northwestern region, where cattle rustling has become increasingly common in recent years, threatening the livelihoods of pastoral and farming communities.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding measures being taken to recover the stolen livestock or prevent future attacks in the area.
