Legendary highlife musician Bright Chimezie has officially joined Sony Music Publishing (SMP) West Africa, just two weeks after his meeting with Afrobeat superstar Davido. The global music publisher announced the signing through a series of posts on its official Instagram page over the weekend.
"SMP is honored to announce the introduction of the Legendary and extraordinary Bright Chimezie into the family. The creator of the Zigma sound has joined the Sony Music Publishing (SMP) West Africa," the company stated in its announcement.
Connection with Davido
The signing comes after Chimezie met with Davido in May following Davido's public acknowledgment that Chimezie's album inspired his popular track 'With You' featuring Omah Lay. This revelation appears to have sparked a professional relationship between the two artists.
Interestingly, this development follows closely on the heels of another Sony Music connection to Davido. Recently, Mayorkun, Davido's former signee, disclosed that the Afrobeat star had helped him secure his own deal with Sony Music after leaving Davido's DMW record label.
