The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has issued a stern warning against any attempts to cause disharmony within the party, particularly regarding the ongoing media exchanges between supporters of former governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar and incumbent Governor Umar Namadi.
In a statement signed by the party's Secretary, Muhammad Dakuma Umar, on Saturday, the party expressed concern over the recent heated exchanges in the media between the two camps.
"Having reviewed the current trends of events and happenings in the state, we wish to with all sincerity and commitment to duty and righteousness state that some dissenting voices in respect of the Government of Jigawa State under Mallam Umar A. Namadi are voices that lack clear understanding of the dynamics of governance," the statement read.
Media Outcries Deemed Deliberate Attempts
The party characterized the recent media outcries as "deliberate attempts to tarnish the image of the government" and distract Governor Namadi from delivering services to the people of Jigawa State.
The statement emphasized that the APC is committed to maintaining unity among its members and will not tolerate actions that create confusion within the party ranks.
"We therefore want to reaffirm that the former Governor and serving Governor are in good cordial relationship and are all working towards the development of the state," the statement clarified, attempting to dispel rumors of a rift between Badaru, who now serves as Minister of Defence, and Governor Namadi.
Call for Support and Legal Warning
The party urged supporters of both leaders to focus on the development of the state rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric. The statement also contained a warning that the party "will not hesitate to take legal action against anyone or group trying to defame the government or cause unnecessary tension for selfish gain."
This development comes amid what appears to be growing tensions within the Jigawa APC, despite the party's public stance that both Badaru and Namadi maintain a cordial relationship.
