The Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a call for the formation of a strong, united national coalition to challenge and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
During a meeting held in Yola, ADC leaders and members emphasized that what they described as the 'misrule' of the APC-led Federal Government necessitates a national political realignment to remove the party from power.
Call for National Reset
Malam Muhammad Shuwa, the ADC's 2023 governorship candidate in Adamawa State, stressed that progressive politicians across Nigeria need to unite under a formidable coalition to "free the nation from the crippling grip of the APC."
Speaking at the 'Convergence of Coalition Partners' event convened by the ADC in Yola, Shuwa clarified that the proposed coalition aims not merely to unseat the APC in 2027 but primarily to initiate a comprehensive national reset.
"This coalition is about reclaiming Nigeria. It's not just about power; it's about purpose. We must unite and offer Nigerians a viable alternative — one that will uproot the culture of mismanagement and hardship entrenched by the APC over the years," Shuwa stated.
According to him, the reset would focus on addressing key national challenges including insecurity, corruption, economic revitalization, and restoring public confidence in governance.
Optimism for Coalition Success
Hajiya Larai Zakari, a retired Comptroller of Immigration and Sarauniyar Guyaku from Gombi, expressed confidence that the ADC-led coalition would succeed in 2027. She emphasized the importance of unity among coalition members to "save Nigeria from further deterioration."
The Adamawa State ADC chairman, Shehu Kambile, explained that the gathering was designed to bring together key political actors for strategic dialogue on critical national issues and to establish a unified front ahead of the 2027 elections.
"Our mission is to build a powerful, people-centered alliance that will rescue Nigeria from the stranglehold of bad governance. The time to act is now," Kambile urged.
The call for a coalition comes amid growing concerns about economic hardship, insecurity, and governance issues that opposition parties claim have worsened under the current administration.
