Katsina State Police have successfully rescued eleven victims of kidnapping and foiled an abduction attempt along the Danmusa–Mara Dangeza village road in Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) following a gun duel with armed bandits on June 8, 2025.
The operation was executed by a combined task force of intelligence officers and police agencies who engaged the armed bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire, according to Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
"The organized and swift response of the police and other security team led to the rescue of these victims as well as disperse the kidnappers," Adejobi stated. "The intervention also shows that collaboration between security agencies will positively confront the problematic violent crimes going on in society."
Enhanced Security Measures in Vulnerable Areas
Authorities have declared that the sustained exposure of insecurity in vulnerable areas of Katsina State, which has been plagued by kidnapping and rural banditry, will no longer be tolerated. They claim to have enlisted more personnel and developed counter-intelligence capabilities to ensure effective results in combating these criminal activities.
Police authorities have reiterated their commitment to ramping up daily security patrols and intensifying joint operations in the area. These efforts aim to dismantle criminal networks, protect lives and property, and provide reassurance to communities living in fear.
This rescue operation comes amid growing concerns about kidnapping incidents across northern Nigeria, with Katsina being one of the states most affected by banditry and abductions in recent years.
The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between different security agencies in tackling the security challenges facing the region.
