Residents of Juji community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have raised alarm over an abandoned bridge project that has left them isolated, especially during the ongoing rainy season.
The incomplete bridge, which connects Juji to Ungwan Gimbiya, has remained unfinished for several years, creating significant hardship for locals. Recent heavy rainfall has exacerbated the situation, with erosion and stagnant floodwaters making the route nearly impassable.
Community members who spoke with BenriNews described the severe impact on their daily activities. "Each time it rains, children can't get to school, and many parents are unable to leave for work," explained one resident. "We are cut off completely. The waterlogged path is dangerous to cross."
Impact on Vulnerable Community Members
The situation has particularly affected schoolchildren and traders who rely on the route daily. With each rainfall, the community becomes effectively isolated, disrupting education and economic activities.
Another resident emphasized the severity of their plight, stating, "This is no longer a minor complaint, it's affecting our survival."
Call for Government Intervention
The community is appealing to the Kaduna State Government and the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA) to urgently resume and complete the abandoned project. Residents believe that completing the bridge would significantly improve their quality of life and ensure their safety during the rainy season.
As the rains continue, the residents remain hopeful that their pleas will be heard and action will be taken to address this critical infrastructure need.
