Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has forwarded a list of 12 commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation, seeking to strengthen his cabinet that currently comprises just two commissioners.
The nomination comes four months after Aiyedatiwa's swearing-in on February 24, 2025, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Constitutional Basis for Nominations
In his letter to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, Governor Aiyedatiwa cited Section 192 (1 & 2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) as the basis for his action.
"I wish to forward to your esteemed office the following commissioner nominees for your kind consideration and confirmation of the House of Assembly. I shall be most obliged to the Honourable House for your expeditious action on this request in the overall interest of our dear state," the governor stated in his letter.
Notable Nominees
The list of nominees includes several distinguished individuals with academic and administrative backgrounds. Among them is Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, former Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) and former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba (AAUA).
Also nominated is Abiola Olawoye, who currently serves as Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing in the state government.
Other nominees include Ayodele Akande, Alabi Johnson, Amidu Takuro, Adewale Akinlosotu, Idowu Ajanaku, Dr. Oluwaseun Osamaye, Dr. Tob Loko, Olaolu Akindolire, Sunday Olajide, and Henry Omoyofunmi.
Cabinet Restructuring
It should be recalled that on January 15, 2025, prior to his inauguration, Aiyedatiwa dissolved the cabinet he inherited. He retained only two commissioners: the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, and the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac.
The new nominations are expected to help the governor implement his agenda for the state more effectively, with a full complement of cabinet members to oversee various ministries and departments.
The State House of Assembly is expected to commence the screening and confirmation process for the nominees in the coming days.
