The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter, has strongly criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for allegedly abandoning projects initiated by his predecessor, the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing the action as political vendetta.

In a statement issued by Leye Igbabo, the PDP's Director of Media and Publicity, the opposition party emphasized that government should be a continuum, arguing that Aiyedatiwa, who served as Akeredolu's deputy, ought to prioritize completing these projects.

According to the PDP, the abandoned projects include the Ijoka Road construction project, Alagbaka Extension Road project, and Onyearugbulem Junction Flyover bridges, among others. The party contended that with the resources available to the governor, there should be no delay in completing these initiatives.

Political Vendetta Claims

The PDP alleged that Aiyedatiwa's actions stem from animosity toward those in Akeredolu's administration who opposed his ascension to the governorship while the former governor was incapacitated.

"The available facts showed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was not ready to go on with the projects because of his clear intention to destroy his predecessor's legacy on the altar of political vendetta against the late governor and his camp," the statement read.

The opposition party described as "illogical" the governor's decision not to complete the road project on Alagbaka Extension in Akure, which is reportedly located near his own residence. "We can feel this level of animosity towards his predecessor's camp such that the governor even refused to complete the ongoing 3 km Alagbaka Extension road project in front of his own house," the PDP stated.

The party urged Aiyedatiwa to "exhibit large-heartedness like the biblical David" and cautioned him to "exercise restraint in the use of naked powers, as absolute powers belong to God."

APC Responds to Allegations

In response, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State dismissed the PDP's claims as false. Steve Otaloro, the APC's Director of Media and Publicity, advised the opposition party to stop spreading misinformation and focus on addressing internal issues within their own party.

"It is nonsensical for the PDP to suggest that Governor Aiyedatiwa would undermine the legacy he helped build by neglecting ongoing projects," Otaloro stated.

The controversy highlights the ongoing political tensions in Ondo State following the transition of power after Akeredolu's passing, with both parties positioning themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
