Abass Daniyan, owner of Daniyan Saba Petroleum filling station in Ndeji, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom after being held captive by gunmen for over a month.

Daniyan was released alongside his manager, Abubakar Issa, on Wednesday, according to family sources who confirmed the development to BenriNews on Thursday.

Details of the Abduction and Release

The two men were abducted by armed gunmen on May 10, 2025, along the Ndeji area of the local government. Their release comes after a reported ransom payment of N100 million, half of the N200 million initially demanded by the kidnappers. However, it remains unconfirmed whether the full amount was delivered before their release.

Following their release, both victims have safely returned to the Ndeji community. They subsequently paid a visit to the Emir of Lafiagi at his palace, marking their safe return.

Rising Kidnapping Concerns in Kwara

This incident highlights the growing security challenges in Kwara State, where kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly prevalent. The substantial ransom amount reportedly paid in this case underscores the severity of the situation facing residents and business owners in the region.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the release of Daniyan and Issa or the circumstances surrounding their abduction.

This case follows several other reported kidnapping incidents in the state, raising concerns about security measures in rural communities.
