Three people, including a state government official, were kidnapped on Monday night in Gbugbu community of Edu Local Government Area in Kwara State.

According to reports, the victims include two adults and a teenager. The government official was abducted between 10:00 and 11:00 pm, marking another concerning incident in the area's growing insecurity crisis.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident to BenriNews on Tuesday in Ilorin, acknowledging the security challenges facing the region.

Investigations reveal that kidnapping cases in Edu LGA have continued unabated despite the deployment of security forces to the area. Similar incidents have been reported in neighboring communities, including Ndeji, where residents have reportedly abandoned their ancestral homes for safer locations.

The police spokesperson confirmed that security forces—including soldiers, police, civil defense personnel, local hunters, and vigilantes—have intensified efforts to flush out criminals in Edu LGA as well as in Ifelodun and Patigi, where bandits' hideouts have been discovered.

This latest kidnapping incident adds to the growing concerns about the deteriorating security situation in parts of Kwara State, with local communities increasingly living in fear of bandit attacks.
