The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned five-day power outage that will affect several states in the North-East region, starting from June 10, 2025.
According to a letter signed by TCN's Regional Operations Manager for Bauchi Region, Engr. J.O. Joseph, the outage will commence at 10:00 a.m. on June 10 and last until 5:00 p.m. on June 14, 2025.
Reason for the Shutdown
The planned interruption is necessary to facilitate the erection of 330kV Turn-In and Turn-Out transmission towers, which forms part of the ongoing development of the new Bauchi 330kV substation. The project will also involve crossing the existing Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line, requiring a temporary shutdown.
According to TCN, the Jos-Gombe single circuit (SC) line will be affected throughout the entire five-day period, resulting in a complete power blackout for Damaturu, Molai, Yola, and Jalingo.
Partial Power Supply Arrangements
While some areas will experience a total blackout, TCN has made arrangements for partial power supply to certain locations. Gombe and Biu substations will receive limited electricity through the Dadin Kowa Hydropower Plant, while the Baga Road substation will be supplied from MEPP.
The Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV line will specifically be taken out of service on June 14 to facilitate the final crossing of the line, completing the necessary construction work.
Pattern of Power Challenges
This scheduled outage adds to a series of power disruptions that have affected northern Nigeria in recent times. In October 2024, a major blackout left 17 states across the North in darkness following a collapse involving the 330kV Ugwaji–Apir double circuit lines.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make alternative power arrangements during the outage period to minimize disruption to their activities.
