Three siblings tragically lost their lives in an early morning road accident along the Celica Kukumoda area of Ife-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

According to reports gathered by BenriNews, the victims were on their way to school when a heavy truck carrying goods lost its brakes and crushed them. The siblings were from the same parents.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have since recovered the remains of the deceased and transported them to a nearby hospital.

Rising Concerns About Road Safety

This incident adds to a growing list of tragic accidents on Nigerian highways in recent months. Just last week, a tanker carrying 60,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) lost control and somersaulted in another part of Ibadan, while a separate incident involved a petroleum tanker catching fire in the city.

Road safety experts continue to emphasize the importance of vehicle maintenance, particularly for heavy-duty vehicles operating on busy expressways. The condition of brakes in commercial vehicles has been identified as a critical factor in preventing such accidents.

Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims as investigations into the exact circumstances of the accident continue.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by pedestrians and commuters on Nigerian roads, particularly students traveling to educational institutions.
