The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has condemned the killing of an Igbo trader, Blessing Eze, at Ifo Market in Ogun State, demanding swift justice for the victim's family.
According to reports, Blessing was allegedly stabbed to death by armed individuals claiming to be government agents after she refused to pay a N1,500 religious levy imposed on traders at the market.
Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has called on the Ogun State Government to provide clear details about the circumstances surrounding her death.
"We need to know why she was killed; who are those behind her gruesome murder? What has the government done to get justice for her? Have the perpetrators been arrested?" Nnabuike questioned.
Call for Federal Intervention
The Ohanaeze youth leader emphasized that the organization would not tolerate what he described as the continuous treatment of Ndigbo "as slaves in their own country."
"This gruesome murder of an innocent Igbo trader would not be condoned; we must fight until she gets justice," he vowed.
The group has also appealed to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to take over the investigation, stating that federal intervention is "the only way to guarantee justice for the victim's family."
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of traders in markets across the state and highlighted tensions over unofficial levies reportedly being imposed on market vendors.
As of press time, the Ogun State Government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or any arrests made in connection with Blessing Eze's death.
