The Ogun State Water Corporation (OGSWC) has announced plans to implement advanced technology solutions to improve service delivery and operational efficiency starting from the next quarter.
Damilola Otubanjo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, revealed that the initiative includes the installation of smart meters and sensors to detect faults and leakages in real-time, transitioning customers from flat-rate billing to metered usage, and strengthening the corporation's revenue collection systems.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Corporation's headquarters in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta on Tuesday, Otubanjo emphasized that the deployment of smart technologies would reduce dependency on manual reporting.
"We are phasing out estimated billing and ensuring all new connections are on prepaid meters," she stated. "This will help us build a more accurate customer database and significantly improve service delivery. With Smart Meters and Sensors, we can detect faults and leaks remotely, enabling quicker responses and minimizing water loss."
Digital Payment Platforms and Customer Service Improvements
To address inefficiencies in revenue collection, the corporation plans to introduce seamless digital payment platforms that will allow customers to pay for water services from the comfort of their homes, similar to electricity recharging systems.
"Just as people recharge electricity from their homes, we want our customers to pay for water without needing any physical interaction with our staff," Otubanjo explained.
Additionally, OGSWC will launch a 24-hour Rapid Response Squad and introduce a toll-free customer service line to improve engagement, feedback, and transparency in their operations.
According to Otubanjo, these initiatives reflect the state government's commitment to improving residents' quality of life through sustainable water infrastructure and smart governance.
The corporation's technological upgrade is expected to significantly enhance water service delivery across Ogun State while creating a more efficient and transparent system for both the provider and consumers.
