The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has issued a stern warning to Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cautioning them against what they described as deliberate attempts to promote disunity within the opposition party ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Osogbo by the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the party accused the PDP of misrepresenting a video statement made by Senator Ajibola Basiru, the APC National Secretary and a gubernatorial aspirant, in an attempt to create discord among APC members.
"It was observed that the leaders and members of the PDP who have rolled out the drums over the incident are grossly lacking in the comprehension of the statement credited to our national secretary," Lawal stated. "It was more of a reiteration that nothing would hinder the ongoing constitutional plans of chasing Governor Adeleke back to his base in the United States of America in 2026."
APC Accuses Adeleke of Misusing Amotekun Corps
The APC chairman further revealed that the party has been working diligently toward unseating Governor Adeleke in the upcoming election. He claimed that the press conference where the controversial statement was made was originally called to address allegations that Governor Adeleke was using the Amotekun Corps to "victimize, oppress and suppress" opposition members in Itaapa, Atakumosa-East Local Government Area.
Lawal also suggested that the Osun PDP was facing challenges in the ongoing legal battle regarding federal government allocations for local government councils, which he claimed was contributing to their unease.
Former Lawmaker Defends President Tinubu
In a related development, Bade Falade, a former member of the House of Representatives and Director General of Senator Iyiola Omisore's 2018 Governorship Campaign, has come to the defense of President Bola Tinubu, describing him as "a treasured progressive leader in Osun State whose contribution is eternally acknowledged by young and old."
Falade's statement comes in response to what he termed as "mischief being propagated by the PDP government in Osun." He alleged that the PDP's plan was to create disharmony between the state APC and the national leadership of the party.
"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the treasure of APC in Osun and Nigeria at large. So, who dares abuse him? Who dares degrade him? This is far from commonsense," Falade stated on Monday in Osogbo.
The former lawmaker also accused Governor Adeleke of attempting to "foist himself into the party to avoid the imminent defeat awaiting him at the poll in 2026."
As political tensions continue to rise in Osun State ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election, both parties appear to be positioning themselves strategically, with the APC determined to reclaim the governorship position it lost to the PDP in the last election.
