A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, has strongly criticized recent defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing those leaving as "political scavengers."

Pearse, a former member of the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and convener of the Reset Lagos PDP group, made these remarks while responding to the defection of the party's State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Hakeem Amode, and several others to the ruling APC.

Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja on Monday, Pearse maintained that the defections pose no threat to the PDP, insisting that the party remains unshaken by these departures.

Defectors Described as "Lightweight Politicians"

Pearse noted that most of the defectors were allies of Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, who had previously announced his exit from the PDP.

"These people were never fully aligned with the PDP since Jandor joined the party," Pearse stated. "They have only now made their positions public."

He dismissed the defectors as lightweight politicians whose absence would not significantly impact the party's structure or electoral chances.

"What power does Jandor and his supporters have when they were able to muster only five per cent in an election? Anyone who believed that the whole structure of Lagos PDP collapsed because they defected to APC can believe any joke," he remarked.

PDP "Cleaning House" Ahead of 2027

Pearse further suggested that the departures might actually benefit the party in the long run, particularly as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

"At best, we can agree that five per cent of the unreliable elements in PDP have left the party. Let me add, it is better that these saboteurs reveal themselves now, before the 2027 elections. They are no longer a problem for PDP," he said.

"By leaving the PDP, these political scavengers are inadvertently helping PDP to clean its house in preparation for 2027," Pearse declared.

The defections come amid ongoing realignments in Lagos State's political landscape as parties begin positioning themselves for future electoral contests.
