The International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja has been officially renamed as the President Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre. The new name was unveiled during a commissioning ceremony held on Tuesday following the facility's extensive rehabilitation.

President Tinubu personally commissioned the newly renovated facility in an event attended by several high-profile government officials, including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau, among other dignitaries.

N39 Billion Renovation Project

According to reports, the renovation of the conference centre cost approximately N39 billion. The facility had been closed for rehabilitation since April 2024, with the reopening timed to coincide with Nigeria's Democracy Day celebrations on June 12, 2025.

During the ceremony, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike was observed celebrating the occasion with dance, highlighting the significance of the project's completion. The minister had previously assured the public that the facility would not be handed over to politicians and would be commissioned as scheduled.

Part of Broader Infrastructure Development

The renamed conference centre is just one of several projects executed in the Federal Capital Territory that are scheduled for commissioning by President Tinubu ahead of the Democracy Day celebration. These infrastructure developments represent significant investments in Abuja's public facilities.

The renaming of the International Conference Centre after the sitting president adds to the list of national assets and institutions named after Nigerian leaders, continuing a tradition of recognizing political figures through public infrastructure.
