The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning that personal relationships will not influence the management of the newly renovated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, which has been renamed after President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, Wike emphasized that all individuals and organizations, regardless of their connections, must pay to use the facility.

"I want to let everybody know, whether you are ministry or an agency, if you want to use this (ICC), you have to pay something; that's the only way it can be sustained," Wike declared. "Nothing like 'my brother or my sister is going to have a wedding'."

N39 Billion Renovation Project

The FCT administration committed N39 billion to renovate the iconic infrastructure originally built by former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida. As part of the commissioning, the facility was officially renamed the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre.

President Tinubu, who had just returned from Lagos where he spent the Sallah holidays, praised Wike's commitment to details and quality during the ceremony. The President urged the FCT Minister to remain focused and ignore distractions, noting that Wike has reflected Nigeria and Nigerians in their real characters as people with well-defined standards and strong determination.

The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the FCT's infrastructure development efforts under the current administration, with the renovated conference center expected to serve as a premier venue for national and international events in the capital city.

Wike's strict stance on payment for the facility's use underscores his administration's focus on sustainable management of public infrastructure and ensuring that government facilities are properly maintained through adequate funding mechanisms.
