Super Falcons striker Rasheedat Ajibade has confirmed she will make a decision on her future club after representing Nigeria at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The 25-year-old forward is set to leave Spanish Liga F club Atletico Madrid at the end of June, bringing an end to her four-year stint with the Spanish side. Ajibade made her final appearance for Atletico in their match against Barcelona on Saturday.
NWSL Interest and Transfer Plans
According to reports, Ajibade has received an offer from a club in the American National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), though the specific team remains undisclosed. Despite the interest, the talented winger has decided to put all transfer negotiations on hold until after Nigeria's WAFCON 2024 campaign concludes.
This strategic decision allows Ajibade to focus entirely on her national team duties as the Super Falcons aim to secure a record-extending tenth continental title in Morocco.
Nigeria's WAFCON 2024 Campaign
Under coach Justine Madugu's guidance, Nigeria has been drawn in Group B of the tournament, where they will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria in the group stage. As one of the team's key attacking talents, Ajibade will be crucial to Nigeria's title aspirations.
The Super Falcons enter the competition as the most successful team in WAFCON history, having claimed the title nine times previously. Ajibade's experience and goal-scoring ability will be vital as they look to defend their status as Africa's premier women's football nation.
Her departure from Atletico Madrid marks the end of a significant chapter in her career, during which she established herself as one of the most talented Nigerian players in European football.
