Kun Khalifat FC and Osun United have made strong starts to their Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs campaign, each securing 1-0 victories in their opening fixtures at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Saturday.

Kun Khalifat FC edged past Crown FC with a solitary goal, while Osun United matched that scoreline against Warri Wolves. These results have placed both teams at the top of Group A and Group B respectively, each with three points.

In the Northern Conference fixtures, Wikki Tourists and Doma United played to a goalless draw, as did Barau FC and Yobe Desert Stars in their encounter. All four teams in the Northern Conference currently sit on one point each after the first round of matches.

The matchday two fixtures will see Yobe Desert Stars face Doma United, while Wikki Tourists will take on Barau FC in the Northern Conference.

In the Southern Conference, Crown FC will look to bounce back when they meet Osun United, and Kun Khalifat FC will also face Osun United on Monday in what promises to be a crucial encounter for both sides.

The Super 8 playoffs are crucial for these teams as they battle for promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), with Crown FC receiving backing from Shooting Stars in their promotion bid.

Prior to the tournament, Crown FC coach Ayeni had expressed confidence in his team's chances, describing them as ready for the promotion battle, while acknowledging that the playoffs would be challenging.
