The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched serious allegations against Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, claiming he is deliberately ignoring misconduct and atrocities allegedly committed by his close aides.

In an exclusive interview with BenriNews, Cross River State PDP Chairman Venatius Ikem cited specific incidents that he claims demonstrate the governor's indifference to wrongdoing within his administration.

Alleged Violence and Financial Misconduct

Ikem highlighted a disturbing incident involving the managing director of the state Water Board who was allegedly "brutally beaten by a fellow officer in the same government," with Governor Otu reportedly remaining silent on the matter.

"How safe are the ordinary citizens of the state? Maybe because the MD is not from a certain part of the state!" Ikem questioned.

The PDP chairman further alleged that a special assistant to the governor was "reportedly caught collecting government revenues via his private account and those of his cronies," yet the governor has taken no action despite the incident being "widely reported."

Public Dissatisfaction with APC Leadership

According to Ikem, there is growing public dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Cross River State. He claimed that citizens are "living in regret" and "wishing for the days of yore under the PDP."

"The APC is simply telling the people, if you thought the PDP chastised you with whips, we are here to chastise you with scorpions!" Ikem stated, adding that this sentiment reflects "the pathetic cry on our streets and our villages and communities."

He accused the APC of attempting to "coerce these people or rather their supposed leaders into its fold" but insisted that such tactics are "not working" as evidenced by political developments in Akwa Ibom State and Cross River State's Northern Senatorial District.

Response to Governor's Second Term Endorsement

Responding to reports that Governor Otu has received endorsements for a second term from his aides, Ikem expressed confidence that such a move would benefit the opposition. He stated that if "the APC chooses to present him for reelection, PDP will clap for them for the mistake."

The PDP chairman concluded by asserting that his party would "find a more acceptable candidate that can give better hope to the people" for the upcoming election.

As of the time of reporting, Governor Otu's office has not responded to these allegations.
