Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North has publicly distanced himself from the opposition coalition being championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, despite describing them as his friends and brothers.

Speaking after a visit to Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Kalu expressed confusion about the coalition's objectives while reaffirming his commitment to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

"Atiku is a personal friend of mine, Amaechi is a personal friend of mine, Peter Obi is my friend, brother, and inlaw; El-Rufai is my personal friend and brother," Kalu stated. "So their coalition is what I don't understand. What I understand is that APC is on course and I have many triggers to pull out for APC."

Coalition Aims to Unseat Tinubu in 2027

The opposition coalition, spearheaded by Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, reportedly aims to remove President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 general elections. This alliance brings together prominent political figures from different regions of Nigeria.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and current Chief Whip of the Senate, vowed to help the APC and President Tinubu remain in power beyond 2027, emphasizing his loyalty to the ruling party.

"I'm not into coalition, APC is the largest party in Africa," he declared, while also acknowledging Governor Otti's performance, saying, "Otti is my brother and he is doing well."

The senator's comments come at a time of increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with various political figures positioning themselves either in support of or against the current administration.

Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti has reportedly stated that it is too early to discuss the 2027 elections, suggesting a focus on governance rather than electoral politics at this stage.
