Krasnodar forward Olakunle Olusegun has expressed his excitement after making his debut appearance for the Super Eagles in their recent international friendly match against Russia.
The 23-year-old striker came off the bench in the 80th minute, replacing Christantus Uche, and contributed to Nigeria securing a 1-1 draw against the hosts at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Friday night.
A Special Moment for the Krasnodar Star
Speaking after the match, Olusegun described the significance of his international debut, particularly against a team of Russia's caliber.
"Debuting for the Nigerian national team in a match against Russia is something special, but for me every game is special," Olusegun told reporters. "It was not easy to debut against Russia, because they are not a small team."
The former Golden Eaglets star also praised the atmosphere at the stadium while acknowledging the competitive nature of earning a place in Nigeria's national team.
"As for the atmosphere around the match, it was great. But, you know, it's not easy to play for the Nigerian national team in such a line-up. A lot of guys want to play – they have this opportunity."
Rising Star in Russian Football
Olusegun's call-up to the national team comes after an impressive season with Krasnodar, where he helped the club secure the Russian Premier League title. His solid performance during his brief appearance against Russia suggests he could become a valuable asset for the Super Eagles in future matches.
The match also saw Nigeria's Tolu Arokodare score his first international goal, helping the Super Eagles earn a respectable draw against the Russians.
According to reports, the friendly match broke Russia's six-year attendance record, highlighting the significance of the fixture for both nations.
