The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that terrorism and banditry in Nigeria will soon be a thing of the past under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Speaking at the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Thursday, Wike highlighted the government's strategic approach to tackling insecurity through proper funding and enhanced training of security forces.

Strategic Security Measures

During his lecture titled "The Nigeria of our Dreams," Wike revealed that President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of forest guards across the country to secure Nigeria's forests, which have served as hideouts for bandits and terrorists.

"Put simply, the era of banditry and terrorism would soon come to an end," Wike declared. "These and many other policies and measures are being put together by Tinubu to reposition our country on the path of progress and development."

Commendations for Wike's Leadership

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, described Wike as a straightforward politician with exemplary leadership qualities. Adeleke particularly praised the minister's visionary infrastructural transformation efforts in the Federal Capital Territory.

Professor Adebayo Bamire, Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, noted that the lecture's theme was timely and thought-provoking, especially at a critical juncture in Nigeria's democratic journey.

"It calls us to interrogate the structures that uphold democracy, the principles that guide responsible governance, citizenship and the strategies that can unlock Nigeria's development potential," Bamire stated.

The FCT Minister's assurances come amid ongoing security challenges in various parts of the country, with the government intensifying efforts to restore peace and stability nationwide.
