The Kaduna State Police Command has categorically denied reports claiming that approximately 200 individuals were kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, describing the information as "false and misleading."

In an official statement released on Thursday in Kaduna, the Command's spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, addressed the rumors that have been circulating on social media platforms regarding the alleged mass abduction.

"To set the record straight, there has been no recorded incident of kidnapping along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the past two years," Hassan clarified. He emphasized that the area remains under constant surveillance with 24-hour patrols conducted by the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security forces to ensure commuter safety.

Warning Against Misinformation

The Commissioner of Police issued a stern warning to individuals and media outlets against spreading such unverified information, noting that these reports could potentially incite unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.

The Command further stated that it is taking this matter seriously and warned that online media channels or individuals found responsible for originating or sharing fabricated information without credible sources may face questioning, investigation, and possible prosecution under the law.

"The State government in collaboration with the security forces and agencies in the state have been working assiduously to ensure safety and security of all persons and properties," the statement added.

The Kaduna State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents and urged the public to rely only on verified and official sources of information rather than unsubstantiated social media reports.

This clarification comes amid growing concerns about security along major highways in Nigeria, with the Abuja-Kaduna route having previously experienced security challenges in past years. However, according to the police statement, significant improvements have been made in securing this critical transportation corridor over the last two years.
