The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Muslims and all Nigerians to maintain hope for the country despite the current economic and security challenges facing the nation.

In a statement released on Thursday by NLC's acting president, Audu Amba, to commemorate this year's Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the labor union extended warm wishes to Muslim faithful while acknowledging the difficulties many face with skyrocketing prices of rams and essential food items.

Call for Government Action

The NLC specifically urged government at all levels to take decisive steps to address the high cost of living that has made celebrations difficult for many Nigerians.

"We would like to use the opportunity to renew our call on the government at all levels to take all the steps necessary to bring down the cost of living," the statement emphasized.

The labor union also highlighted the need to tackle widespread insecurity across the country, noting that peace is essential for meaningful celebrations in all parts of Nigeria.

Message of Hope and Resilience

Despite the challenging circumstances, the NLC encouraged Nigerians to view the Sallah period as "a moment for sober reflection" and to remain hopeful about the country's future.

We equally urge all Nigerians to not give up hope in their country because of the present challenges but muster the needed wisdom and courage to confront these challenges head-on for a greater Nigeria for all of us.

The statement comes as the Federal Government declared June 6 and 9 as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, allowing Nigerians time to observe the important Islamic festival despite economic pressures.

This year's Sallah celebration occurs amid growing concerns about inflation, food security, and economic hardship that have made traditional festivities more difficult for many Nigerian families.
