Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has urged the London club to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan during the summer transfer window, describing the France international as "exceptional" and a perfect fit for manager Enzo Maresca's system.
Speaking to ESPN FC about the potential transfer of the 29-year-old shot-stopper, Leboeuf was full of praise for Maignan, who has earned the nickname "Magic Mike" for his performances between the posts.
"Magic Mike is his nickname because he is so exceptional," Leboeuf said. "I think he'd fit perfectly to Chelsea... Chelsea and I know him. I appreciate him and I think he will be very useful to Chelsea."
Maignan joined AC Milan from French Ligue 1 side Lille in 2021 and has since established himself as one of Europe's top goalkeepers. According to reports, the Italian club has already informed Chelsea of their asking price for the goalkeeper.
The potential signing would represent another significant investment for Chelsea under Maresca, who is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming season. The Blues have been active in the transfer market, with recent developments including sending Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United after his loan spell.
Chelsea's pursuit of Maignan indicates the club's ambition to solidify their goalkeeping position as they aim to challenge for major honors in the 2025/26 season.
