The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has conducted a major operation at Gowon Estate, dismantling several criminal hideouts and arresting 19 suspects allegedly involved in drug trafficking and other illegal activities.

During the coordinated raid, officers discovered substantial quantities of illegal substances including Colorado, Indian Hemp, narcotics, and other prohibited drugs. The operation also uncovered multiple bags of hard drugs strategically hidden in the boots of parked vehicles, revealing an organized criminal network operating within the area.

Taskforce Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy

Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, chairperson of the taskforce, emphasized the agency's determination to eliminate criminal elements from Lagos, particularly as the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations approach.

"This operation states our zero-tolerance stance on all forms of criminality that undermine the safety and stability of our communities," Akerele declared. "The suspects will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law."

According to Akerele, this latest enforcement action represents the fifth major operation in an ongoing campaign targeting street-level crimes and illegal drug trade across the state. The initiative aims to restore public order and environmental discipline in identified trouble spots throughout Lagos.

Call for Community Cooperation

The taskforce has urged residents to partner with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the government's 'See Something, Say Something' initiative.

"Our mission is to ensure Lagos remains a secure and livable city for all. We call on citizens to remain vigilant and actively support our enforcement efforts," Akerele stated.

The operation highlights the continued efforts by Lagos authorities to combat drug-related crimes and maintain security across the metropolis, particularly in residential areas that have become hotspots for criminal activities.
