The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kwara State has announced the deployment of 450 personnel to ensure road safety during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. The deployment includes officers, special marshals, and first responders who will monitor roads across the state from June 5 to 11, 2025.

According to a statement released by Basambo Olayinka Busari, the Public Education Officer of the Kwara State Sector Command, the operation will be supported by significant assets including 16 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four light private tow trucks, and a 70-tonne tow truck.

Strategic Traffic Management Plan

Sector Commander Mufutau Irekeola has strategically positioned personnel at key locations within Ilorin township and other major cities across Kwara State. The special patrol operation aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent road accidents during the festive period.

Irekeola emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations throughout the celebration period. He specifically cautioned motorists against dangerous driving practices, including wrongful overtaking, speeding, overloading, creating obstructions, and using mobile phones while driving.

Public Awareness Campaigns

The command has already initiated comprehensive public enlightenment campaigns to sensitize road users ahead of the celebrations. These efforts include mega rallies at interstate motor parks, early morning advocacy programs, and outreach activities at markets, churches, and mosques across the state.

"Our goal is to ensure free flow of traffic and safe motoring before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations," the statement noted. The command confirmed that special patrol operations and traffic control measures are being implemented to ease movement along major roads in the state.

This deployment comes as part of nationwide efforts by the FRSC to reduce road accidents during the festive period, which typically sees increased travel and higher traffic volumes across Nigerian roads.
