Nigeria's U-17 women's national team, the Flamingos, have been drawn in Group D for the upcoming 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, where they will face Canada, France, and tournament debutants Samoa.

The draw ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Rabat, Morocco, which will host the ninth edition of the global youth tournament.

Challenging Group Stage Ahead

The Flamingos face a difficult challenge in the group stage, particularly against established teams Canada and France, both known for their strong youth development programs. Samoa, making their first-ever appearance at the U-17 Women's World Cup, rounds out the group.

According to the tournament format, the top two teams from each of the six groups will advance to the Round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams, giving the Flamingos multiple paths to progress beyond the group stage.

Nigeria's Recent Tournament History

The Flamingos will be looking to improve on their recent performances in the competition. Last year in the Dominican Republic, the team exited at the quarter-final stage. Their best result came in the 2022 edition held in India, where Coach Bankole Olowookere led the team to a historic third-place finish, securing Nigeria's first-ever medal in the tournament.

Olowookere, who continues to lead the team, will be hoping to leverage the experience gained from previous tournaments to navigate through this challenging group and potentially surpass their 2022 achievement.

The 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup represents another opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its emerging female football talents on the global stage, continuing the country's tradition of strong performances in youth tournaments.
