The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, alongside All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters from Kano North have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second term agenda during a significant event in Kano State on Tuesday.
The endorsement came during the official commissioning ceremony of the newly upgraded Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, which was previously the Federal Polytechnic, Kabo. The institution's elevation followed approval by President Tinubu after a request from Senator Barau.
Educational Milestones Fuel Political Support
During the event at Kabo Local Government Area, hundreds of APC members joined Senator Barau in a standing ovation for President Tinubu's second term agenda. The crowd expressed confidence that the President's demonstrated commitment to the Kano North Senatorial District would secure their votes for his continuation in office beyond 2027.
"We told Mr. President that our priority was the upgrade of the Federal College of Education, Kabo, to a Federal University. He simply said, 'Bring it, I will sign it.' And he signed it," Barau told the cheering crowd.
The Deputy Senate President further revealed that following the university upgrade, he requested the establishment of another Federal Polytechnic in Kabo, which was also promptly approved by the President.
Unprecedented Support for Northern Development
Senator Barau, who represents Kano North, praised Tinubu's continued support for the region, describing the approval of the Federal University of Science and Technology as "a monumental gain not just for Kano, but for Northern Nigeria as a whole."
"What greater love can a leader show to his people than investing in their future through education?" Barau asked. "Mr. President has demonstrated that he cares about the grassroots, and when you educate the grassroots, you are building the foundation of every society."
The Senator also recounted how President Tinubu reversed a controversial decision to remove the upgrade status of Yusuf Maitama Sule University to a federal university of education.
"When the decision was reversed, I approached Mr. President again. I told him this was not fair. Right there, I handed him a proposal and he approved it on the spot," he said.
"I say this without hesitation: President Tinubu loves the people of Kano, the Northwest, and the North at large. He has never turned down any of our development proposals," Barau added.
Ministerial Endorsement
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Housing, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, commended the President's administration for prioritizing inclusive development and strengthening educational access across all geopolitical zones.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries from within and outside Kano State, marking what many described as a significant milestone in federal support for higher education in the region.
This endorsement comes as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC in Kano North making an early declaration of their support for President Tinubu's potential second term bid.
