Senator Orji Uzo Kalu has called on President Bola Tinubu to dismiss several members of his cabinet and security chiefs, stating that many Nigerians are yet to benefit from the administration's policies.
The former Abia State governor made these remarks on Monday while appearing on Channels TV's Politics Today programme, where he expressed concern about the continued suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
"Nigerians in the lower area are still suffering. They have not started having the benefit of the changes President Bola Tinubu has made, the changes are trickling down," Kalu stated.
The senator highlighted that it might take "another one, two years" for the President's policies to fully impact citizens, attributing the delay partly to security challenges across the country.
Security Concerns Affecting Economic Progress
Kalu pointed to insurgency and other security issues as major factors preventing Nigerians from engaging in agricultural activities, which has implications for food security and economic stability.
"The insurgencies and the problems all over Nigeria are still making people not going to the farm," he explained.
Call for Cabinet Reshuffle
The senator was unequivocal in his recommendation for a significant cabinet reshuffle, urging the President to demonstrate courage in making necessary changes.
"Some people working with the President should be relieved of their duties. Some of them should go, both in security sector and ministers," Kalu emphasized.
He added: "President must be courageous enough to sack some of these ministers. If it is my advice, most of these ministers, most of them should go – that is the truth. Some of the security chiefs will also go."
Kalu stressed that there should be "no sentiment about redeeming Nigeria" if the country is to make meaningful progress under the current administration.
The senator's comments come amid growing public discourse about the effectiveness of President Tinubu's cabinet in addressing Nigeria's economic and security challenges.
