Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has made a bold suggestion that Real Madrid should sign Barcelona midfielder Pedri in an attempt to weaken Hansi Flick's side.
Speaking to DAZNFutbol, Alonso stated: "For Real Madrid, I would sign Pedri to weaken Barcelona." The Spanish racing star went further, suggesting that Madrid should consider signing the player even if they don't utilize him regularly. "I'd leave him on the bench, so they don't have him anymore," Alonso added.
Pedri, 22, has established himself as one of Barcelona's key players since joining from Las Palmas in 2019. The Spain international has made over 200 appearances for the Catalan giants, contributing 26 goals and 21 assists during his time at the club.
The midfielder played a significant role in Barcelona's domestic treble this season, scoring six goals and providing eight assists across 59 appearances in all competitions. His importance to the team was highlighted when he scored in Barcelona's 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final in April.
Despite Alonso's suggestion, a transfer seems highly unlikely as Pedri's current contract with Barcelona runs until 2030, and there have been no indications that the player is considering a move away from Camp Nou.
The comments from Alonso come amid the traditional rivalry between Spain's two biggest clubs, with both sides constantly looking to gain advantages over each other both on and off the pitch.
