The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a public warning regarding a fake Facebook account created in the name of its Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi.

In an official statement released by the Council and signed by Azeez Sani, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NECO disclosed that the fraudulent account was created with the intention of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

"The Council wishes to draw the attention of the public to the existence of this fake Facebook account in order to avoid being swindled by the fraudsters," the statement read.

NECO further revealed that security agencies have been notified about the situation and are expected to take appropriate action against those responsible for the fraudulent activity.

This alert comes amid growing concerns about online impersonation and social media scams targeting educational institutions and their officials in Nigeria. The public is advised to verify the authenticity of social media accounts claiming to represent NECO officials before engaging with them.

The examination body did not provide specific details about the nature of the fraudulent activities being perpetrated through the fake account, but similar scams typically involve soliciting payments for fake services related to examination registration, result verification, or certificate processing.

NECO has consistently maintained that official communications from the Council are only disseminated through its verified channels and authorized spokespersons.
