A lecturer from Benue State University (BSU), Dr. Godwin Kwanga, has regained his freedom after being kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Makurdi, the state capital.

Dr. Kwanga, who teaches in the Department of Geography, was rescued on Saturday through a coordinated effort by multiple security agencies including the Police Special Squad, Operation Zenda, and the Joint Task Force (JTF).

The rescue operation was conducted at Tse-Anjov village along Wafare Quarters, near the burial site of Fulani herdsmen victims, close to the Mobile Barracks Ring Road in Makurdi.

According to sources familiar with the operation, two kidnappers escaped with bullet wounds into nearby bushes during the rescue, abandoning both their victim and operational weapons as security forces closed in.

DAILY POST reported that Dr. Kwanga was reunited with his family around 8:00 pm on Saturday in Makurdi, bringing a successful conclusion to the ordeal.

Attempts to reach DSP Udeme Edet, the Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.

This incident comes amid growing security concerns in Benue State, where kidnappings and violent attacks have become increasingly common in recent years.

The successful rescue operation demonstrates the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in combating kidnapping and other security challenges in the region.
