A prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Engineer Buba Galadima, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, claiming it has delivered nothing but hardship to Nigerians in its two years of governance.
Galadima's comments came in response to President Tinubu's national address on Thursday, May 29, 2025, marking the second anniversary of his administration. In an interview with BBC Hausa, the NNPP stalwart described the economic situation under Tinubu as comparable to "digging dry wells."
"We haven't seen any improvement—not improvement where what ₦10 used to buy; can't even be bought with ₦1,000 now," Galadima stated, highlighting the severe inflation and cost-of-living crisis facing ordinary Nigerians.
Contrasting Claims on Government Performance
During his anniversary address, President Tinubu had outlined what he considered significant achievements of his administration, particularly regarding economic reforms, improved security, anti-corruption efforts, poverty reduction, and management of domestic debt levels.
However, Galadima dismissed these claims, insisting that Nigerians have seen no concrete or real progress under the current leadership. His criticism reflects growing public frustration over the continued economic hardship and rising cost of living that many citizens are experiencing.
The opposition figure's comments come at a time when many Nigerians are expressing increasing impatience with the government's economic policies and their impact on daily life. The purchasing power of the naira has significantly declined, affecting household budgets across the country.
This criticism adds to the mounting pressure on the Tinubu administration to deliver tangible improvements in the economic conditions of Nigerians, particularly as the government marks its mid-term milestone.
