Nigerian military forces have eliminated over 60 terrorists during a coordinated operation in Borno State, marking a significant advancement in the country's counter-terrorism efforts.
The Army Headquarters confirmed in a statement on Friday that troops of Operation Hadin Kai conducted a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State in the early hours of the day.
"In a decisive and coordinated operation, gallant troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a simultaneous land and air assault on terrorist positions in Bita, Borno State, in the early hours of today," the statement read. "The intense battle resulted in the neutralization of at least 60 terrorists."
This operation follows a series of successful counter-insurgency efforts in Nigeria's northeastern region. Earlier this week, dozens of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were killed by troops in New Marte, Marte local government area of Borno State. That encounter, however, resulted in the loss of two soldiers.
The military has intensified its operations against insurgent groups in recent days, with multiple successful engagements reported across the northern region. These operations are part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security to areas affected by terrorism.
The Nigerian Army continues to restrategize its approach to counter-insurgency operations in Borno State and other affected areas, demonstrating commitment to eliminating terrorist threats in the region.
Military authorities have not yet released details about weapons recovered or other outcomes of the operation, but the significant number of neutralized terrorists represents a major blow to insurgent groups operating in the area.
