The Kwara State Government has sealed multiple extra mural coaching centers and cyber cafes across the state for failing to comply with regulatory requirements, including non-registration and non-payment of annual renewal fees.
According to a statement released on Friday by Anigilaje Rasheedat Omolola, spokesperson for the state Mass Education Agency, the affected establishments were operating illegally without meeting the state's stipulated guidelines.
The Executive Director of the Agency for Mass Education, Mallam Yusuf Saka, revealed this information during an enforcement tour to the affected centers. The tour was conducted in collaboration with the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) enforcement team, with Mr. Adedare Olusegun and Mrs. Komolafe Atinuke representing the agency.
Saka explained that the government had previously instructed all such centers to register and obtain necessary permits. However, the enforcement measures became necessary when some establishments failed to comply with these directives.
Affected Establishments
The sealed centers include Upward Success Academy (Offa Garage), Samis Educational Institute (Olunlade), Best Hand Coaching Centre (Odota), Leadership Seekers Educational Services (Asa Dam), Holla Success Computer Services (Sawmill Area), Dynamic Coaching Centre (Tanke), SoftRays Computer Institute (Tanke), and Cisse Edu Services, among others.
The director emphasized that the affected establishments will remain closed until they fulfill all requirements and pay outstanding dues. He warned that any unapproved center found operating in defiance of the government's regulations would face the full wrath of the law.
Saka further clarified that the government's action aims to regulate the activities of coaching and learning centers to ensure they operate legally and transparently. This measure is part of broader efforts to boost the state's revenue and improve educational standards.
The director urged proprietors of the affected centers to cooperate with the government in its regulatory efforts, highlighting the importance of compliance for the overall improvement of the educational sector in Kwara State.
