Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has issued a stern warning about the potential destructive impact of social media misuse among Nigerian youths.

The former P-Square member took to his Instagram Story to express his concerns about the negative use of social media platforms, particularly targeting those who engage in mischievous activities for clout and trending purposes.

"Social media is going to destroy a lot of people... You might think it's just cruise, clout, or to trend... Your eye go clear," the "Reason With Me" hitmaker wrote.

Okoye's warning comes amid growing concerns about the unregulated nature of social media use in Nigeria, where platforms have become breeding grounds for cyberbullying, fake news, hate speech, and defamation.

Calls for Social Media Regulation

Currently, social media use in Nigeria remains largely unregulated with no official regulatory body overseeing online activities. There have been attempts to establish regulatory frameworks, including a bill introduced in the National Assembly aimed at regulating social media usage in the country.

However, the proposed legislation received mixed reactions from Nigerians, significantly affecting its passage. The bill faced intense criticism, particularly on social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing concerns about potential restrictions on freedom of expression.

Okoye's comments highlight the growing recognition among public figures about the potential negative consequences of irresponsible social media use, especially among young Nigerians who may not fully understand the long-term implications of their online activities.

The singer, who recently welcomed a child with his new wife Ivy, has maintained a significant presence in the Nigerian music industry both as a solo artist and previously as part of the duo P-Square with his twin brother Peter Okoye.

As social media continues to play an increasingly important role in shaping public discourse in Nigeria, Okoye's warning serves as a timely reminder about the responsibility that comes with digital platforms and the potential consequences of misusing them for temporary fame or attention.
