Former Chelsea player Joe Cole has urged his former club to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal following the winger's impressive performance in Chelsea's Europa Conference League triumph.

Sancho, currently on loan from Manchester United, was among the scorers as Chelsea defeated Spanish side Real Betis 4-1 in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday, helping the Blues secure European silverware.

Speaking after the match, Cole expressed his admiration for the England international and advocated for Chelsea to make the transfer permanent during the summer window.

"I think Jadon is a really great player and I think he's done well," Cole said as quoted by Metro UK. "Yes, I do [want Chelsea to sign him permanently]."

The former Chelsea midfielder highlighted Sancho's previous success in Germany, adding: "This is a kid who went to [Borussia] Dortmund and was a superstar as a kid."

Sancho joined Chelsea on loan after falling out of favor at Manchester United, where his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag reportedly deteriorated. His goal in the final caps what has been a revival of sorts for the 24-year-old winger during his time in London.

Chelsea's 4-1 victory over Real Betis marks a positive end to their season, with manager Enzo Maresca securing a European trophy in his first campaign with the club despite acknowledging that his team "struggled" at times during the final.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Chelsea's decision regarding Sancho will be closely watched, with the player potentially seeking a permanent move away from Old Trafford to continue his career resurgence.
