Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his intervention in the state's political crisis, revealing that the peace and reconciliation process is progressing well.

Speaking at a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement on Thursday as part of activities marking his two years in office, Fubara assured that democracy and good governance would soon return to Rivers State.

"I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will return to your offices, not just in the Executive arm, but also the Legislative arm," Fubara stated through his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

The governor emphasized that the reconciliation process aims to reinstate himself, his deputy, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly, allowing both arms of government to work together for the benefit of Rivers people.

Appreciation for Presidential Intervention

Fubara specifically acknowledged President Tinubu's timely intervention, which he credited with preventing the situation from deteriorating further.

"We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank Mr. President for his timely intervention in salvaging the situation and stabilising the polity and the state. If not for Mr. President, the story today would have been different," he said.

The suspended governor added: "I don't know how he gets his information, but the truth is that he acted with wisdom at the right time. He is the one you should thank."

Call for Peace and Reconciliation

Fubara urged Rivers people to maintain peace to facilitate the success of the reconciliation process. He emphasized the need for all parties to prioritize the state's interests above personal considerations.

"We have to come down from our high horses and commit ourselves to the peace process. And that is what we are doing," Fubara stated.

"What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you; the interest of the state is paramount," he added, calling for a forgiving spirit among all stakeholders.

The political crisis in Rivers State has been a subject of national concern, with the suspension of the governor and other elected officials creating governance challenges in the oil-rich state.
