Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has extended an olive branch to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, following Thursday's Court of Appeal judgment that validated his victory in the September 21, 2024 governorship election.

The governor emphasized that prolonged litigation only distracts from the urgent task of governance and delivering democratic dividends to Edo residents. He called on all political actors to set aside partisan differences and collaborate with his administration to build a more prosperous state.

"This ruling is not just a victory for our party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, but a triumph for democracy and the rule of law in our Edo State," Okpebholo stated.

"I have consistently extended an olive branch to all, irrespective of political leanings. The development of our dear State remains paramount. Now is the time to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and statesmanship. The legal process has run its course, and the judgment of the Court of Appeal is clear," he added.

Commitment to 'People First' Agenda

Governor Okpebholo reassured Edo residents of his unwavering commitment to his 'People First' agenda, which focuses on accelerated development across all sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.

He commended the judiciary for its diligence and commitment to justice, describing the institution as "the last hope of the common man." The governor noted that the judgment confirms the will of the people as expressed during the election.

Okpebholo urged all citizens to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, assuring that his administration would continue working tirelessly to serve the best interests of every resident of Edo State.

The Court of Appeal's decision dismisses the appeal filed by the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, effectively ending the legal challenge to Okpebholo's election victory.
