Popular Nigerian entertainer Speed Darlington has come under investigation following disturbing claims he made about engaging in sexual activity with a minor, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
The controversy erupted after Speed Darlington posted a video on Instagram where he appeared to confess to having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. In the video, the entertainer, speaking in Igbo language, described an incident that allegedly took place at an unnamed hotel.
According to his account, the minor was left bleeding after the encounter, and he claimed to have paid hotel staff N2,000 to change the sheets. The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage across social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling for his immediate arrest and prosecution.
In response to the growing public concern, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) issued an official statement addressing the situation.
"The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency is aware of the disturbing video currently circulating online, in which a popular entertainer allegedly admits to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor," the agency stated.
The DSVA clarified that while their jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State, and Speed Darlington did not specify the location of the alleged incident during his Instagram Live session, they have taken steps to ensure the matter is properly investigated.
"In view of the above, and in line with our commitment to justice, we have escalated the situation to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)," the Lagos DSVA announced on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.
This incident comes amid Speed Darlington's recent public appearances, including a celebrity boxing match against fellow entertainer Portable. The allegations, if proven true, could have serious legal consequences as sexual activity with a minor constitutes a criminal offense under Nigerian law.
As of press time, Speed Darlington has not issued any public statement addressing the investigation or clarifying his claims in the controversial video. Authorities have not yet announced whether formal charges will be filed against the entertainer.
Child protection advocates have praised the swift response from authorities while emphasizing the importance of thoroughly investigating such serious allegations regardless of the celebrity status of those involved.
